Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

Empowering Individuals, Building Quality Lives

At Lucas Support and Care, we specialise in delivering Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) services designed to help individuals experiencing behaviours of concern live safer, more independent, and fulfilling lives.
PBS is a person-centred, evidence-based approach focused on understanding why a behaviour occurs and creating practical, proactive strategies that improve quality of life — not just manage behaviour.

What is PBS?

Positive Behaviour Support is a respectful, holistic approach that looks beyond the behaviour itself and addresses the underlying needs, communication styles, sensory experiences, and environments that may contribute to it. Rather than focusing on 'fixing' behaviour, PBS focuses on reducing behaviours of concern by increasing skills, choice, and well-being.

PBS is grounded in key values:

    • Dignity and respect for every individual
    • Empowering people through skill-building
    • Reducing or eliminating the use of restrictive practices
    • Collaborating with families, support networks, and other professionals

What PBS services Include

    • Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBA)
Identifying the underlying causes and triggers of behaviours through careful observation, consultation, and assessment.
    • Behaviour Support Plans (BSP)
Developing clear, tailored plans with proactive strategies, skill development goals, and crisis management techniques.
    • Training and Coaching
Equipping families, support workers, and teams with the knowledge and tools to implement plans confidently and consistently.
    • Ongoing Monitoring and Review
Regularly reviewing strategies, tracking progress, and adjusting plans to meet changing needs and goals.
    • Restrictive Practice Management
Where necessary, supporting the safe, ethical, and lawful use of restrictive practices while working towards reducing or eliminating them.

What can benefit from PBS?

Our PBS services support:

    • Children, adolescents, and adults experiencing behaviours of concern
    • Families seeking strategies to better support a loved one

We proudly support both NDIS participants and private clients.
